Why Silicon Valley North exists

Enterprise experience, a passion for smaller businesses.

Between us we have spent decades building software inside large organizations — one of us leading the product side, the other the technology, always making the important calls together.

Over the years, we realised that helping smaller companies and non-profits is what motivates us most. The problems there are every bit as real and interesting, and the difference the right help makes is easy to see.

When a smaller organization invests in software, every dollar is doing real work. Often it is an owner putting their own money in to make the business better — for their staff, their customers, their growth — and we treat it that way.

We both believe the same thing about how good software gets built: the people doing the work have to stay directly connected to the people who will use it, and to the value they are meant to get. Distance from that is where effort and budget quietly go astray.

So Silicon Valley North is built to keep that link short — deeply experienced people working with you directly, in small hands-on steps you can stop or continue at any point, with the judgment of a large company and none of the overhead, from Vancouver, for businesses across Canada.

Scott has spent 25 years across global software businesses, where he learned to keep the money and the product in the same view.

He works best when the opportunity is real but the details are still unclear — finding the actual problem, telling real needs from early assumptions, and shaping a first version small enough to test.

Above all he cares about return. If you are going to spend, he wants you to see what you get back and when — and he will happily tell you when the honest answer is to spend less, or nothing yet. Throughout the work he keeps priorities, trade-offs, and cost in plain sight, including where AI is worth it and where a simpler path gives you more for the money.

Ying has more than 20 years of hands-on software experience — architecture, cloud and connected systems, full-stack, and machine learning — and the depth to turn a direction into something dependable.
